The plot is based on true events that occurred in Rwanda in the mid-1990s when the Hutu people orchestrated a genocide against the Tutsi, resulting in the deaths of over a million individuals. The main character, Paul, manages a hotel in the capital where he shelters several hundred people, saving them from violence. Paul employs his connections, resorting to bribery and blackmail to protect his family and those seeking refuge. His efforts lead to the rescue of 1,268 individuals.
