Set on September 30, 1998, the story follows Claire Redfield as she returns to her hometown of Raccoon City, which she fled as a child. After losing her parents, she lived with her brother in an orphanage sponsored by the Umbrella Corporation. With the company now gone, the town is in decline. Claire notices that the locals seem infected, while her brother, a police officer, appears healthy. Suddenly, a siren sounds, advising residents to stay indoors. That night, Claire and a small police team, including rookie Leon Kennedy, must confront the horrors that threaten their survival.
