Set in 140 AD, the story follows young centurion Marcus Aquila, who arrives in Britain from Rome to uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of the Ninth Legion, commanded by his father twenty years prior. His journey takes him into the Scottish Highlands, where he faces savage tribes and various dangers. Marcus is determined to restore his father's honor and retrieve the lost emblem of the legion, the Eagle of the Ninth.
